Product Engineering, Design & Innovation

Bernard Sinclair is a qualified Mechanical Engineer who has spent most of his career working within or for manufacturing industry. Practising since 1974, he has spent time designing and developing products for Hoover and Wilkinson Sword amongst others before establishing Product Engineering Associates. As the longest serving member of Plastics Consultancy Network, Bernard Sinclair served on the executive committee for the period 1995-2000. He has also acted as a Neighbourhood Engineer, taking Mechanical Engineering expertise into secondary schools, assisting students and staff in matters relating to design technology  as well as advising on  engineering,  manufacture and the selection of plastics.  He also undertakes expert witness work relating to design, manufacture and intellectual property.

Product Engineering Associates (PEA)

PEA was formed by Bernard Sinclair in 1987. It specialises primarily in the design, innovation and development of consumer products.
Work undertaken is technically led and includes, design and engineering on both new and existing products. This includes concept design, product design & development work and trouble shooting. Additional work provides clients with advice on design, materials and manufacture of proposed products, providing clients with technical specifications, provisional designs, prototypes, models, manufacturing cost estimates and estimates for tooling. Project are generally managed to the point of final approval of sampled components.
 

Expert Witness and Legal

Bernard Sinclair has undertaken a number of expert witness and legal assignments. These mainly relate to disputes in connection with product design, intellectual properly or mechanical design.

Clients for projects of this kind include:

Freshfields, Dibb Lupton Alsop (DLA), Millbank, Tweed, Hadley and McCloy, Bates, Wells and Braithwaite, BNFL and Birmingham Alliance/Hammerson UK Properties.

Speculative Projects

Bernard Sinclair is also involved in a speculative design-partnership which has evolved from Product Engineering Associates. Through this partnership a number of products have been developed for which the intellectual property is fully owned. These products are mainly stationery and desk-top items and are available for manufacture under licence. Some of the items are fully tooled ready for manufacture.
