Personal Profile

Brian holds a degree in Chemistry from Manchester (UMIST) and an MBA from Warwick University, with whom he has also held a tutorial position.

More than 10 years has been spent in consultancy, specialising in plastics, elastomers and a range of polymeric and non-polymeric materials. This consultancy experience includes working as a senior consultant for CMAI Europe and Phillip Townsend Associates, where he completed a number of single-client and multi-client international projects in the areas of plastics and elastomers for international clients in Europe, the Far East and North America. In addition he undertook a multi-client techno-commercial study on the “European market for thermoplastic pipe”.

As Brian Hackwell Associates, Brian has worked on a number of techno-commercial projects on thermoplastics and in the materials field for international clients on both single-client and multi-client studies. Overall consultancy experience has covered most of the spectrum of thermoplastic materials, including polyolefins, polyesters and PVC as well as a range of speciality chemical studies. A number of articles have been written for technical journals as well as a variety of papers given at international conferences.

He is also a founder member and managing consultant of the Hackwell Group – a consultancy group working in the area of wood plastic composite materials (Web: www.woodplasticcomposites.org) . This group published two studies in 2006 entitled – “Wood Plastic Composites in Europe” (Full version publ. April 2006; shorter Executive Overview publ. May 2006) which are being sold to resin producers, academic institutions, additive manufacturers, processing companies and end-product manufacturers across the world.
