Caps and Closures Report
Gerhard Crossman and Co-writer Norman Sanders of Forester Business Consulting Ltd. have recently compiled a market review study on the subject of:
The future of Plastics Caps & Closures.
The study, which was published by Pira International Ltd. in May 2006, provides a global overview of all Plastic Caps and Closure applications by sector, by categories, by regions and materials and their projected growth rates up to 2010. It also includes a review of current and future technologies, the key market drivers, trends, market challenges and opportunities for the entire supply chain.
The market for plastic caps and closures (C&C), which grew between 2000 and 2004 by 4.3% is expected to grow by healthy 4.6% year on year up to USD 21bln in 2010. While this presents prosperous growth opportunities for the entire global supply chain, the report however cautions that plastics C&C share in the western regions will expand at a slower pace than that of the past decade as a number of markets are becoming saturated. Here the growth will be triggered by cap types with innovative value-added features.
Over-proportional growth expectations are in Eastern Europe and in particular Asia and Japan, where growth rates above 10% are predicted. Application areas of projected growth and increasing market share for plastics C&C are Beverages and Pharmaceutical/Healthcare, where demand will be driven by functionality (tamper- and child-proof, dosing features, lightweight), convenience (easy to acquire, easy to close, reopen and discard, no mess, no clean up, etc.) and legislation.
